Welcome to
Historic Mapleton

Set on a hilltop that overlooked the Tennessee River and bustling business district, this magnificent home was an unforgettable landmark for those visiting Florence during the early years of Lauderdale County. "Mapleton", as it was later named, was built from 1826-1828 in Federal style architecture for George Coalter. According to the National Register of Historic Places, "the delicate Adamesque woodwork of the interior, especially that of the double drawingrooms, is, in fact, the most elaborate of its era surviving anywhere in the state today." The fanlight doorways have been opened over the years to Civil War troops and Presidential candidates, and we are excited to begin the journey to open the doors once again to the community.
